how to discover your Enneagram energy

where did the Enneagram come from?

The Enneagram as a symbol has ancient origins. “Ennea” in Greek means “Nine” and “Gram” means “Point”. So the greek translation is 9 points.

As a personality framework, it was developed in the 70’s onwards by several individuals. If you’re curious about the history of the Enneagram, the is great place the explore.

Our favourite part about the Enneagram is that no one owns it. It wasn’t developed by a company or a single person. It’s been a collective movement over time with multiple Enneagram teachers refining the model more and more.

how does the enneagram compare to other personality frameworks?

If you search online about personalities, you’re going to find a huge list of different models and frameworks out there. Some of the commonly known ones are Myers-Briggs and DISC.

In our experience, we’ve found the Enneagram to be the most fluid and multi-layered approach. At the surface, you’re going to see 9 energies (sometimes called 9 types). When you start diving deeper, you’ll recognize that there are thousands of combinations and iterations of these 9 energies plus some other distinctions like Wings, Instinctual Stacking and Tri-Energy. At the end of all this, you’ll find a combination of these energies that’s incredibly unique to you and can help you grow into the best version of yourself.

why energies instead of types?

Almost all of the resources out there on the Enneagram will refer to them as personality types. We call them energies.

In our experience, many people are wary of being labeled or put into a box. This is completely understandable – there is only one version of you. That’s why we encourage the understanding that you are all 9 of the energies. You just happen to have some that are stronger or more developed than others.

As you continue in your growth journey, you can use the Enneagram as a powerful tool to develop all the best parts of yourself. After all, the best of all 9 energies makes up the best of a whole person.
